Pre-Menstrual Syndrome (PMS)
PMS is caused by hormonal changes and imbalances during the menstrual cycle, and can last anything from just one or two days to 2 weeks prior to the period. Symptoms may include irritability, anger, depression, tearfulness, and may be accompanied by breast distension or bloating.
Diagnosis and treatment of PMS with acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine
Some women who suffer very badly from PMS, turn to acupuncture, as well as herbal medicine, for relief, and they find striking results.
In Chinese Medicine, Qi moves the Blood. Before the period, Qi gathers to push the Blood out, so the Qi tends to become blocked. This Stagnation of Qi results in the emotional, and many of the physical symptoms of PMS, which are then relieved as soon as the blood begins to flow. By aiding the smooth flow of Qi, acupuncture and herbal medicine can alleviate all symptoms of PMS.
