The Treatment of Vulvodynia with Chinese Medicine

Do you suffer from pain on intercourse? You may feel throbbing, itching, stabbing, searing, soreness, itching or burning pain 🔥 in the vulvar area.

If so, you may be suffering from vulvodynia, a debilitating condition that affects millions of women and plays havoc with their emotional and sexual lives. It is caused by irritation or hypersensitivity of the nerve fibres in the vulval skin. It may be triggered by chronic inflammation from yeast, viral or bacterial infections, hormonal changes or structural problems.

Many women suffer for years before it is diagnosed, and then struggle to get it treated effectively. What they don’t realise is that acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine are very successful in treating it 🙌.

From a Chinese perspective, the Liver and Kidneys play a key role in vulvodynia. These two organs share “the same source” in Chinese medicine, and are closely related. An imbalance in one easily affects the other. The Liver Primary Channel encircles the genitalia, and the Liver Sinew, Connecting and Divergent Channels reach and connect with the genitalia. The Kidney governs sexuality and reproduction and regulates the “lower orifices”, and the Kidney Sinew Meridian binds at the genitals.

The pain of vulvodynia is associated with stagnant Liver Qi. The burning can be attributed to the stirring of “Ming Men Fire”, the physiological Fire 🔥 of the body, that is housed between the Kidneys. This can be stirred up either by stagnation of Liver Qi or Deficiency of Kidney Yin, the Water aspect of the Kidneys, which anchors the Fire.

The condition can be treated successfully with acupuncture or Chinese herbal medicine, or, ideally, a combination of the two. So please don’t go on suffering in silence 🙏. Your love life can be restored ❤️❤️❤️
